At GCU: First baseman Zach Malis is sure to bring some of the heat from Grand Canyon University to the Southern California Catch this summer.

At Desert Christian High School, Malis built an offensively-strong reputation. After playing all four years on the varsity team, he ended with a .538 career batting average, breaking school records such as career RBIs (215) and career runs scored (199).

As a junior, Malis blew his team away by hitting .636 with 63 hits and 61 runs. He followed up his stellar season with another impressive season, batting .569 with 48 runs and 63 hits his senior year. Malis has also experienced the mound and went 10-0 with a 0.14 ERA, allowing only one run through 49.1 innings pitched.

By the time he graduated in 2015, Malis helped lead his team to three state championship titles and was named the Division IV player of the year from 2013-2015.

Personal: Majoring in Sports Management • mother, Michelle, played volleyball at the University of Arizona (1990-1993) and is currently a high school volleyball coach.
