La Mirada, CA-Despite a trio of home runs, hit by Ethan Lopez (University of Hawaii-Manoa) and Zack Davis (University of Alabama-Birmingham), and a pair of four run innings, the Catch lost to their South Division rival, the Academy Barons. Their late-game rally, while exciting, fell short by one run as the Catch lost to the Barons 10-11.

Through his first three starts of the summer, Nicolas Cumpston (Eastern Kentucky University) held a 3.21 ERA and gave up no more than two runs in each start. However, the Barons quickly took a three run lead over the Catch in the bottom of the first. Despite giving up seven runs and 12 hits, Cumpston struck out five batters before being pulled in the sixth inning.

One inning earlier, Lopez launched his first home run of the night over the left field wall, giving the Catch their second hit and first run of the game in the fourth. After Austin Bull (Grand Canyon University) hit an RBI double in the seventh, Lopez hit his second home run and brought Southern California within two runs of the Barons.

The following inning, Zach Malis (Grand Canyon University) leadoff the eighth with a single and Davis sent his first home run of the season out of the park, tying the game 7-7. Later in the inning, the Catch took a two run lead with an RBI single from Sam Mrstik (Dallas Baptist University) and held a 9-7 lead over the Barons after the eighth.

However, the Barons would have a four run inning of their own, taking a 11-9 lead over the Catch in the bottom of the eighth. Despite scoring a run in the ninth inning, the Catch were unable to match the Barons and lost 10-11. Although their loss knocks them down to a 5-3 conference record, the Catch still hold a shrunken lead in the South Division of the California Collegiate League

The Catch rematch their South Division rival on Friday, June 16 at 4:30 p.m.
