Gallarda’s Near Perfect Outing Leads Catch to Win

La Mirada, CA-Fans at Biola University saw the utterly dominant outing by starting pitcher Jimmy Gallarda (Biola University), which held the San Francisco Seals to one hit through the first seven innings of the game and gave the Southern California Catch a 5-0 victory.

While Gallarda blanked the Seals, the Catch struggled to get on the board through the first five innings of the game. However, the floodgates opened in the bottom of the sixth as Southern California went on to take a five-run lead. Leading off the inning with a single, Caleb Potter (West Virginia University), eventually scored the go-ahead run from an RBI double hit by Josh Rojas (University of Hawaii-Manao). The next batter, Zach Malis (Grand Canyon University), reached third on an outfield error and was enough to score Rojas from second.

Leading the Seals 2-0, Southern California was not done as Jeff Murray (Santa Ana College) and Robert Bultena (Orange Coast College) hit a pair of RBI singles, which added two more runs to the Catch’s side of the scoreboard. After Ethan Lopez (University of Hawaii-Manao) hit a sacrifice fly, the Catch finished their game on top of the Seals 5-0.

Although the Catch scored an avalanche of runs late in the game, Gallarda stole the show, allowing only one hit and one walk through 7 innings pitched. Amidst his five perfect innings, Gallarda struck out eight batters in a row, finishing the night with 11 total strikeouts. Despite a one out double, breaking up the chances of a perfect game in the sixth, Zac Filos (Riverside Community College), who relieved Gallarda, maintained the shutout through the last two innings of the game, giving up only one hit.

The Catch continue their nonleague play with a solo game against the East Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday, June 27 at 4:30 p.m.
