La Mirada, CA-Once again, the Southern California Catch outlasted their opponent’s late game rally with an 8-5 victory over the So Cal Bombers. Impressive defense, turning three double plays, gave the Catch a three-game winning streak as they reenter their California Collegiate League matchups.

Daniel Alvarez (Fullerton Community College) dominated his first start at home of the summer, throwing seven four hit and one run innings. Besides falling even with the Bombers after the top of the second, the Catch quickly regained the lead with a go-ahead run driven in by a single from Zach Malis (Grand Canyon University).

It was not until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Catch bombarded the Bombers and took a 7-1 lead. With runners in scoring position, Robert Bultena (Orange Coast College) knocked in two runs with a bases clearing double. Jacob Hathaway (Undecided) brought in Bultena and kept the rally alive for Malis, who drove in a pair of runs to end the inning. After scoring one more in the bottom of the eighth, the Catch survived the Bombers three-run ninth inning.

Showing off his versatility, James Goodwin Jr. (Biola University) not only made his first plate appearance of the summer, but also took over the role of catcher for the last two innings of the game. Malis and Bultena both finished their night with three RBIs.

With an improved overall record and a three-game winning streak, the Catch hit the road to resume interleague play with a solo game against the Orange County Riptide on Thursday, June 30 at 4:30 p.m.
