La Mirada, Ca- Although the Southern California Catch held off being swept by the Long Beach Legends, they were unable to comeback from a fifth inning grand slam and lost 3-7. Despite out hitting the Legends, nearly every opportunity the Catch edged on the Legends was extinguished with four double plays.

Coming off his two-run start against the Ventura Halos, starting pitcher Daniel Alvarez (Mt. San Antonio College) fell victim to the lack of run support and a fifth inning grand slam that put the Legends up 0-5. However, pinch hitter Robert Bultena (Undecided) broke up the Legends’ shutout as the Catch jumped on a pitching change made by Long Beach and drove in a run with an RBI single. A passed ball fueled the Catch’s eighth inning rally, but their effort was squandered by another double paly made by the Legends as Southern California lost 2-7.

After driving in the Catch’s first run of the game, Bultena went on to end the game 2-2 with a pair of singles and an RBI. Leftfield Sam Mrstik (Dallas Baptist University) also finished the game with multiple hits, going 3-4 with three singles.

Wrapping up their five-game run against the Legends, the Catch face Long Beach on Tuesday, July 12 at 4:30 p.m.
