Palm Springs, CA-Unlike their last game, the Southern California Catch’s offensive efforts came too little and too late as they lost the series final to the Palm Springs Power 6-9. Losing two in the desert, the Catch now hold an overall 3-2 season record as they prepare for their first conference matchup of the summer.

In his first start of the season, Jake Lochner (Missouri State University) struggled, pitching four innings and giving up two hits, four runs and five walks, eventually receiving the loss. Although the Catch tied the game at one as Zack Davis (University of Alabama-Birmingham) scored off a balk in the top of the third, the Power quickly regained the lead with two runs in the same inning. Palm Springs buffered their lead in the fifth, scoring four runs off of James Goodwin Jr. (Arizona Western University).

Gradually the Catch began to chip away at the Power’s lead, scoring one run in the sixth and another in the seventh from an RBI single from Austin Bull (Grand Canyon University). Down 4-9, the Catch continue to shrink their deficit with two runs in the top of the eighth. Jimmy Gallarda (Biola University) brought in the first run of the inning with an RBI groundout and the next batter, Davis, hit a sacrifice fly, which brought the score up 5-9. Despite Bull bringing in another run in the top of the ninth, the Catch could not repeat their comeback success they had the night before and lost the series to the Power.

As a whole, the Catch’s pitching staff’s main problem came from the walks that were given up. Between the four pitchers used, the Catch gave up 10 walks which resulted in a number of runs. Regardless, Bull and Davis shone at the plate, both with two hits and driving in three combined runs. Bull ended his night 2-4 with 2 RBIs, while Davis finished 2-3, scoring once and bringing in one run.

After a day long break, the Catch start their conference games with a solo game against the Orange County Riptide, on Tuesday, June 7 at 4:30 p.m.
