The Southern California Catch’s offense continued their high production in their 7-1 victory over the Santa Barbara Foresters. By taking down one of the most dominant teams in the California Collegiate League over the past three years, the Catch moved up to a 2-1 conference record and are currently only a half game behind the division leading Academy Barons.

The Catch’s six-run victory over the Foresters only added to Santa Barbara’s struggle. Although they have finished with the best season record in the CCL for the past three summers, Santa Barbara was roughed up by the Healdsburg Prune Packers and now hold a 1-3 conference record.

Meanwhile, it seems as if the Catch’s luck is beginning to turn. Consistent scoring was key in the Catch’s win over the Foresters, scoring at least one run through the first six innings of the game. After striking out two in the top of the first, Nick Cumpston (Eastern Kentucky University) went on to pitch five more innings, allowing four hits and one run with seven strikeouts.

Cumpston received run support right away off an RBI single from Caleb Potter (West Virginia University). The following inning, Jeff Murray (Santa Ana College) added another run to the scoreboard with his first home run of the summer. Not only is that the Catch’s fifth home run of the season, but it is also their second in the last two games.

From there, the Catch scored one run each inning until the offense finished with two runs in the bottom if the sixth. Ethan Lopez (University of Hawaii-Manoa) hit a double, which brought in two runs and put the Catch up by a final score of 7-1.

The Catch now head up north to play a doubleheader against their division rival, the Ventura Halos, to kick off their incredible busy weekend. The first game of the doubleheader starts on Saturday, June 11 at 1 p.m.
