At WVU:  During his Freshman Year, he appeared in nine contests on the mound, earning a record of 1-0 with one save. In 8.0 innings pitched, he struck out eight and held opponents to a .233 batting average with just one extra-base hit and allowed seven hits and seven earned runs. He struck out two batters in 1.0 innings at Radford on April 29. Lastly, he shut out Charleston Southern for 4.1 innings while striking out a career-best three batters and allowing just two hits to earn his first career victory on March 27

Personal: Born January 18, 1995. Nick is the son of David and Laura Wernke. He has two brothers and is currently enrolled in general studies. At West Virginia he has been named on the Big 12 Commissioner’s & Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll
