Catch Get Lost In the Riptide

Garrett Osterode -- SID

La Mirada, Calif. – The So Cal Catch did not bring their A-game back to La Mirada following the time away as they drop the opening game by the final score of 14-2. It was trouble from the start as the Riptide handled the Catch easily at Eagles Diamond.

Chris Vargas got the ball for the Catch and from the start you could tell So Cal was in for a long night. The Riptide got it started early and didn’t stop. Vargas gave up five runs in his four innings of work, and the relief after him wasn’t much help. Tyler Hazlett, Joey Hanley, and Tallon Thomason all surrendered runs in Friday night’s game. Hunter McIntosh was the lone star of the Catch pitching staff, delivering the only scoreless outing.

The offense didn’t do much to help either. The Catch were held in check by Riptide pitcher Caleb Kilian who surrendered only one hit in his five innings of work. Mitchell Bumann, Steven Garrett and Jonathon Ducoff were the only players to register hits for the Catch.

Steven Garrett, tonight’s “Player of the Game” went 1-2 with a RBI double and a walk. Steven delivered the game’s first run for the catch as he hooked a double down the left field line in the 7th inning.

Looking Ahead:

Bailey Martin will get the ball as the Catch travel to Irvine as the Catch take on the Riptide in game two of this three game weekend series. They look to bounce back after this heartbreaking defeat.
