Catch Sink the Halos

BOX SCORE

Garrett Osterode -- SID

Ventura, Calif. – The So Cal Catch hit the road once again to finish off their 6-game road trip with matchup with the Halos at Ventura College. The Catch walked away with a 7-2 victory, ending the road trip with a 2-4 record.

Chris Vargas (UC Irvine), who before the game was named a CCL All-Star, set the tone for the Catch, tossing four solid innings while allowing only one run. Vargas battled through some control issues and worked around a lot of traffic on the bases, but delivered exactly what the Catch needed in order to be successful.

Backing up Vargas was an excellent bullpen. So Cal’s bullpen did not allow a single earned run on Wednesday night, tossing five excellent innings. Chad Boudreaux (ETBU), who has been outstanding as of late, worked two solid innings, followed by Tucker Thomason (Fresno City) for one inning and Matthew Wade for two (SEMO), who earned the save.

On the offensive side, it was Omar Ortiz (Pacific) who packed the punch for So Cal. Omar was 2-4 with a two RBIs and two runs scored. One of Omar’s two hits was the go-ahead homerun in the 7th inning. Although it was not the decisive run, it got the offense jumpstarted and helped get the team the confidence it needed to score seven runs in the final three innings.

The rest of the Catch hitters put together a solid afternoon as well. Seminaris, Ducoff, and Fisher also picked up multi-hit games for the Catch and were a part of an 11-hit attack.

The Catch took advantage of the Halos mistakes, pitched exceptional, and swung the bats when needed. This was by far one of So Cal’s most complete games played all summer long. If the Catch can play like this moving forward, they will be an extremely difficult team to beat.

Looking Ahead:

Tayt Smith (Azusa Pacific) will take the hill as the Catch head back to La Mirada to take on the Conejo Oaks, a team we have yet to see. Tomorrow night is Chic-Fil-A night so be sure to stop by and watch Catch baseball!
