So Cal Catch Ink 3 CCL All-Stars

The California Collegiate League announced the rosters of its annual all-star teams today, selecting 54 of this season’s top performers and top prospects to participate in the nationally-televised 2017 CCL All-Star Game and Prospect Showcase. The players representing the 14 CCL teams were selected by the CCL team managers and will compete as two teams, the CCL South and the CCL North.**

The So Cal Catch were lucky enough to have had three of their players selected to this prestigious All-Star Game. Chris Vargas (UC Irvine), Steven Garrett (Azusa Pacific) and Evan Sandmann (Dallas Baptist) will all suit up and represent FCA Baseball and the So Cal Catch on July 12th at the MLB Academy. The game will be regionally televised on Fox Sports West at 7:00 P.T./10:00 E.T.

Before the game the players will be able to work out for scouts from all 30 MLB teams and college coaches from around the country. This will be an amazing opportunity for these young men to showcase their talents in front of a large audience. The start time for the workout is slated for 3PM.

-Chris Vargas has been the Catch’s best and most consistent starting pitcher. In five starts Chris holds a 3.27 ERA and has struck out 14 batters in 22 innings. Opposing hitters are hitting a dismal .223 off Chris and has been able to limit solid contact all season long. Chris is entering his redshirt-senior season at UC Irvine so this will be a huge opportunity for him to be seen by scouts around the country and for him to showcase his skills on a larger skill before the start of his final collegiate season.

-Steven Garrett (Azusa Pacific) has done it all for the Catch. Steven leads the team in most offensive categories including Batting Average, On Base Percentage, RBIs, and Walks, but that’s only a small part of his game. Garrett has been the team’s biggest surprise, the coaches knew he was going to be an effective hitter, but it’s what he has been able to do on the mound that makes him a uniquely valuable player. Along with the offensive prowess, Steve has pitched in five games, surrendering one run over the course of four and one-third innings and has picked up a save and a win.

-Evan Sandmann (Dallas Baptist) came off an outstanding season for Dallas Baptist, a regional powerhouse, before joining the Catch this season. Evan was the starting right fielder for the Patriots, he batted .304, knocked in 23 runs, and scored 23 times. This summer for the Catch Evan has been an extra-base hit machine. Out of his 17 hits he has recorded, 8 of those hits have been for extra bases (6 doubles and 2 triples). Evan has also been a plus defender in right field proving himself to have one of the stronger arms in the entire league.

The Catch are extremely proud of these young men and could not be more excited to watch them participate in the All-star game next Wednesday night.
