LA MIRADA, California - October 9, 2015

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes - So. Cal. Baseball Division has selected Jay Sullenger as head coach of their summer collegiate team, the So. Cal. Catch for 2016. Sullenger is currently in his third season as head coach at Biola University.

Jay Sullenger attended Liberty University, where he played Division 1 baseball. Before coming to coach for Biola, Sullenger spent eleven seasons working with the baseball team at James Madison University. Beginning in 2001, he worked his way from a volunteer assistant coach to the role of assistant head coach in 2008. Sullenger led the team, working as a third-base coach, hitting coach, recruiting coordinator and assisted with scheduling and budget management. Under his coaching, James Madison University’s team led the nation in slugging percentage (.517) and runs per game (8.9), bringing the team to the NCAA regionals. In 2011, Sullenger left the university to lead Idlewild Baptist Church in Tampa as the Minister of Recreation Outreach. Then in 2013, he was hired as Biola University’s head baseball coach.

Sullenger will be leading the FCA So. Cal. Catch collegiate team and will be coaching the players to play the game of baseball for the glory of God. “I want God to be at the center”, he said, “and I want these guys to be growing in their knowledge of the gospel and certainly the game of baseball. But if they are growing as men, then they’re going to grow in the game of baseball.”  Sullenger desires to put Christ at the center of the game and for the players to grow in community together. Catch General Manager, Ben Orr, had these remark about Sullenger, “Jay is the perfect man to lead the Catch this summer. He gets what FCA Baseball is about and that is putting Christ first while retaining a high level competitive baseball environment. To have a guy who spent eleven years at a division one program, has a excellent feel for the game and puts his relationship with Christ on top, that is exactly what we were looking for. We are blessed to have him on board.”

Sullenger and his wife, Erin, reside in La Mirada, CA. They have four children, Eli, Hannah, Reagan, and Macy Grace who love to come and support their father at the baseball games. They attend Southlands Church in Brea, CA.

The So. Cal. Catch is a ministry of Fellowship Christian Athletes Baseball. The Catch seeks to create an opportunity for collegiate baseball players to further develop their baseball skills in a highly competitive summer collegiate league and to train them to be lights for the Lord in the world of baseball.
