Big Inning Bites the Catch Again

Garrett Osterode -- SID

La Mirada, Calif. –After taking an early lead on Saturday night, the Catch could not hang on to secure a win to even up the weekend series. So Cal drops this game by the final score of 6-3 and is now in risk of dropping all six games against the Riptide this summer.

All-Star Chris Vargas, the team’s most consistent starter, took the hill for the Catch and produced another quality start. Vargas lasted five strong innings and allowed only one earned run. Chris was in command of the zone and kept hitters off balance all night long as evidence by his six strikeouts and only one walk.

While Chris did his job, the bullpen could not hang on to this one. In four innings of work, the bullpen surrendered four earned runs.

The Catch hitters came out of the gates strong but failed to do much damage against the Riptide starter. The Catch finished the game with only five hits, two of which coming from Omar Ortiz (Pacific). Other than Omar, no other Catch hitter recorded a two-hit game. Anthony Seminaris and Shay Whitcomb were able to record RBIs for the Catch.

Injury Report:

Grant Robbins (UNLV) left last Saturdays game with an apparent finger injury as he was trying to steal a base. Robbins is back in his usual leadoff spot for Dan Peters and looks back to almost 100%.
